Phil Coulson is an espionage agent working for S.H.I.E.L.D. and the current director of S.H.I.E.L.D., with a mandate from former Director Fury to rebuild the organisation.

Thor[edit | edit source]

Agent Coulson ran ground interference and tactical operations in New Mexico as part of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s investigation surrounding the incident with Mjolnir, Thor and the Destroyer

The Avengers[edit | edit source]

Coulson was seemingly killed by Loki in The Avengers when Coulson tries to stop Loki from ejecting Thor from the Helicarrier. Coulson's apparent death was the trigger which finally united the Avengers.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - Pilot[edit | edit source]

After the events of the Avengers, Coulson assembles a small team of agents, consisting of Melinda May, Grant Ward, Leo Fitz, Jemma Simmons and Skye, to investigate the new, the strange and the unknown. Coulson and Maria Hill later explained to Agent Ward that Fury "faked Coulson's death to motivate the Avengers". 

Beginning of the End (Episode)[edit | edit source]

After taking down Centipede, Agent Coulson was named the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. by Nick Fury, and was, as Fury's final official order, tasked with rebuilding the organisation.
